Summer Riding

110 Views          07/14/08
Although I havent made any long trips yet this year, I have been having a blast on day rides. This past Saturday I rode with a group to near Waskom Texas to visit the TC Lindsey General Store. It is a general store that has been in continuous operation since 1847. We then rode to Jefferson, Texas for a burger. I rode 300 miles that day. On the 4th we rode just under 300 miles to near Hot Springs Arkansas. Awesome ride through the Ouachita Mountains. The week prior to that we rode a supper ride of about 200 miles. The last 5 weeks I have ridden just under 500 miles each week. I dont think it gets any better than this. :o)

Hot Springs Rally

Just got the brochure in the mail for this rally. It is Sept 11-13 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. 3 nights of music with Miranda Lambert, Styx, Mollie Hatchet, and Blackfoot. I have gone the last 3 years and it gets bigger every year. Plus, Hwy 7 is often listed as one of the top 10 places in the US to ride.

Bikers

116 Views          05/04/08
My parents recently drove from Arkansas to California via Route 66. Their 50th anniversary is this month. They drove their minivan there to visit old friends near the bay area where I grew up.

They see me riding often and listen to my tales of the rides and the friends made. I have told them often how bikers are some of the best people you will ever meet.

As they got to the Grand Canyon, they were taking pictures and enjoying the scenery when a couple of bikers from Idaho rode up. As they were talking about their trips, my dad asked if it would be alright to stand in front of one of the guys bikes for a picture. The biker looked at him and said, "Well, sure, but first put my leather jacket on and sit on the bike".

My folks now have a new understanding of what I am always talking about.

Its good to remember every person we meet along our journeys is someone's mom, dad, brother, sister, spouse or friend.

Mardi Gras Upriver Jefferson, Texas

147 Views          01/03/08
Mardi Gras Upriver in Jefferson Texas will take place Feb 1-3. The parade starts with a few hundred bikes before the regular parade. This will be my 8th year going. Anyone else interested? If you have never been to Jefferson, you are missing out. Brick streets, almost 100 bed and breakfasts, and very biker friendly makes this town of 2000 a regular place for me to visit.

What kind of things would make a great biker networking website? Blogs, forums, ecards, classifieds, chatrooms, event calendar, anything else?
