I needed a place to go to air out the old brain, so here I am. I babble elsewhere but ..those people aren't into my mechanical love.
tonight I am one happy dude, tho, the heart ain't happy right now, but I just scored something on e-biggibie I've been looking for, well maybe 20years?
now Nadine, (whom I'll get around to in a moment) has got me a little of track.
see...I just found a set of hand shift tanks for a 57-58 panhead. (big smilie here!) get 'em tomorrow. but Nadines already got a set of foot shift tanks all set to go to paint.... and she'll have a rocker clutch...just like her big sister...( where my butt is! )but a ratchet lid with a jockey instead.
now comes along a new set , but where do I draw my lines? stay on course...or change more...um ..stuff?
I'll stay the course I am sure..and very soon..Nadine starts getting assembled.
as soon as the new upper end is put on the motor, chit should start flowing..
Nadine's a true Johnny Cash special... I got her one piece at a time... but she sure ain't cheap! ya get what ya pay for... or so I tell myself.
I shouldn't have to rob much from the other 'sweetie' who's gathering refurbishment too..she's family. she's inherited.
nadine never would have been if it hasn't been for her big sister...who still remains nameless after 28years!?! she just goes by the red and white one... Nadine is to be skyline blue..paints on the shelf!
hmmm...one is red and white...and one is blue... two flhs...but not for you! okay...lame.
I'm excited..a good project to do, on a long winters eve. come spring.. I think I'll have a new love ( wink )
reading these blogs this morning, and have to laugh. I'm gonna be a poser!!! couple of weeks I'll be going on a vacation.... and trailering my bike!! geez...I'm feeling very much like a sidewalk commando!!!!LOL fact is... I got too much chit to carry..(a week camping) I can afford the gas... but the ol' girl is a leaker..could I afford the oil?? and reliability too... 'she's' not even on the road...(soon as the new tires and brakes are done..) can't use the excuse..I'm too old..there is older out there than me, but it is 'her' birthday.. hell...she just turned 50!!!! oh well...I'll hang my head in shame... maybe I can hide the truck and trailer..and pretend!!LOL
I read somewhere, that it is legal to split lanes in CA. really got me curious about this...safety wise. way back when... when you didn't need helmets, I lived out there..and the 'mind set' of the auto drivers wasn't 'into' allowing the cyclists that freedom. I saw doors fly open, cars swerve.. plus what about the truly accidental lane change?? are the motorist more aware now?
curious about some of these things. some of you may be pro's, and some may be just riders..but I try and do some of my own stuff. I know my capabilities, so I don't do this, or I don't do that.. I always say...I know just a little too much..a bit less than I wouldn't ..try..so much.
but I've got a couple projects...
I picked up a pan motor a year or more ago..missing the heads. so I was finally able to pull the jugs off and send them off for a .010 bore and new pistons..and I had a set of heads redone...mega bucks!! but I think I'm going to run this engine with the lower end just like it is. I busted the gears out, flushed the cases...and the rods don't have alot of up and down.. the cases never have been apart..and like I said..ten over, first bore!! not bad for a fifty year old motor eh?
so it's a basket case build. spare parts..but right for the year still..drop leg frame, right year tanks just an earlier frt end.. and transmission.
with top dollar for the motor, powder coatings, fresh trans with andrews gears..wheels and all... this basket will be just about as much as a good used one????
where are you? where did you go? I know it's been a few decades... but I remember you were the bikers..dear abby... for questions of 'social skills'... when that sleazy biker magazine...got too respectable...we all parted ways.
so it's fathers day, and I never really had a good thing with my dad.. in and out of my life. but I do remember one cool thing! I lived not far off lake huron in michigan..an air force base was in operation then.. and we lived out near the dam.
little dirt roads in this really small neighborhood, and next to our house was a empty lot, big enough for ball games.
well dad and someone else..I was pretty young, can't quite remember... might have been dads brother..he was a biker.
well the road grader route had plowed the dirt away, and there was a small ledge there..a foot, foot and half tall..
don't know if these two had a few or not..but they began running the hog down the lot and jumping the edge.
I couldn't tell you if it was a swingarm or a rigid, a panhead or a knuckle.. but it was dads turn and off he went.
he hauled some azz down the field, flew off the lip crossed over the road and hit a telephone pole laying on the side of the road.. he went one way..his glasses another..and the bike another..
what I really remember when running up to him, and seeing him laying in the bushes... was the ol' harley laying on it's side...still chugging away..( big smiley face here )
that was about 1961. damn...I wish I had whatever they were playing on...or at least parts!!!LOL
hey..I got issues! times are a bit tuff around the motor city, works been poor these last couple years.... so I did what I thought I had to do...again.... I sold my baby.
well there's more in the stable...but this one was in it's finest condition..
markets bad... took a hard hit.. felt more secure with a few greenbacks in the bank...
but.........
darn if I ain't going out today and looking at a used ultra...
